Years at CPLS: 2016-present
Education: Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education from Washburn University
Why I Teach at CPLS: One of my previous teaching experiences was in a public school. I longed for the opportunity to have deeper discussions with my students. When issues between classmates would arise, I found myself thinking how nice it would be to be able to talk about forgiveness and praying for each other as part of repairing relationships. Even the ability to say, “Isn’t God amazing?” when learning about our National Parks or the structure of a leaf was something I missed.
Cair Paravel emphasizes the importance of laying the building blocks at a younger level. Students can then gain a deeper understanding as the student matures and learns to analyze what he or she has learned. I hope to help my students develop a biblical worldview and work towards character development.
Personal Testimony: I was raised in a Catholic home. As an avid reader, I read every Janette Oke book I could find one summer. In every book, the message of the gospel was clearly evident and some character always recognized his or her need for a Savior and prayed for salvation. I realized I needed the same and began my personal relationship with Christ at that time.
When I went to college, I joined a Bible study and realized how much of my life I had been spent trying to earn my way into heaven by being a good student, a good kid, and working hard. Understanding the fact that I couldn’t earn my way into heaven was absolutely freeing. I began looking for a Bible-believing church. The first church I visited was Topeka Bible Church and I have been there, learning and growing, ever since.
Interests/Extra-Curricular Activities: I enjoy reading and finding a good bargain. I also love to spend time with my husband and three young children. Together we enjoy gardening, trying new recipes, and home improvement projects.
