Steps for Admissions
We begin accepting applications on March 1 for students interested in applying for the upcoming academic year. New applicants are encouraged to apply at any time for immediate admission to CPLS. Applications are accepted and spaces are offered as they are available.
Step one: LEARN MORE ABOUT US
The best way to decide if Cair Paravel would be a good fit for your child and your family is to take an individualized tour. Our Admissions Director can schedule a time for you to see our campus, visit with teachers, and catch a glimpse of daily student life. Call Stacey Hickam at 232-3878 or email admissions@cpls.org to schedule a tour.
We also encourage interested families to read about Classical Christian Education and learn how it is different from traditional public schools and even other Christian schools. In order to make the most of your partnership with us, it is important to understand what we do and why we do it. The following book is a great resource for families considering a Classical Christian approach to education: Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning by Douglas Wilson.
Step Two: SUBMIT AN APPLICATION
Your admissions file is opened when we receive the completed family application, application fee, and a student application for each child applying for admittance. Each student application should have a photo attached, grade cards for the past two years and standardized test scores for the past two years.
Step Three: ACADEMIC TESTING
CPLS requires the Admissions Department to examine previous school grades and the most recent standardized test scores. In addition, applicants will also be given an assessment test to help faculty confirm that the applicant is academically prepared to join the grade level for which they are applying.
Children applying to kindergarten will have a "Readiness Interview" to determine if they are developmentally ready to learn in a classroom environment. Older students will take more academic-based tests with sections on math, grammar, and reading comprehension.
Step Four: FAMILY INTERVIEW
Once the paperwork and testing is complete, the Admissions Director will contact you to schedule a meeting between you and school administrators. This is a vital part of the admissions process and provides a time for everyone to get to know one another more personally. It is also an ideal opportunity for parents to ask any final questions.
Step Five: ACCEPTANCE
Families are notified in writing of their acceptance or denial of admission within two weeks of the family interview. If an applicant and family are found to be admissible but no space is available at that time, families will have the option of remaining in a waiting pool to be considered should a spot become available.
Step Six: BUSINESS OFFICE
Accepted families will be contacted by the business office to sign their tuition agreement for the upcoming year. Arrangements can be made at this time for monthly tuition payments and automatic withdrawals.
Step Seven: ENROLLMENT
Enrollment paperwork (including immunization records, pick-up authorization forms, volunteer information sheets etc.) is to be completed before the first day of school. Students joining the school mid-year will turn in their paperwork by the first day of school attendance. Students joining at the beginning of the school year will be given their paperwork on Enrollment Day in August.
