Admissions
Families of new applicants are encouraged to apply at any time. For the fall term of the subsequent school year, applications are evaluated after March 1. For those wishing for immediate admission to CPLS, application may be made at any time. Those wishing to transfer from another high school should consider whether or not they have taken courses that would allow for fulfillment of core requirements. The admission process entails an academic screening exam for the prospective student and an interview session with the parents. The admissions committee schedules interviews as necessary. A letter of acceptance decision will be made within two weeks of the screening and family interview. For fall applicants, a $75 application fee is required and the first tuition payment is to be made on June 10th. Of course, families who must apply after June 10th are welcome to do so. However, classes at any given grade level may be full, so parents are encouraged to make application as early as possible. Our hope is to find the best possible match between the school and parents who wish to send their children to a school that purposes to assist them in training their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Admissions Standards
Admissions is perhaps one of the most crucial stages in the application process. CPLS operates as an extension of the student's family, recognizing that parents have the God-given responsibility and authority to educate and discipline their children. As such, it is extremely important for the family to fully investigate the school's statement of faith and all of our educational opportunities. CPLS understands the nature of educating young minds from a Christian Worldview and strives to offer an environment that reflects the concerns and goals of our families.
Kindergarten
CPLS holds a Kindergarten Round-up every spring at the school. Parents receive information about the school and prospective students introduced to the classroom experience. Those wishing to apply are academically screened at a later date. Applicants will be screened for basic knowledge of items such as shapes, colors, alphabet, writing their name, counting up to 25, following simple directions and demonstrating ability to maintain a certain degree of self awareness of control.
Grammar School (Grades 1-5) and Middle School (Grades 6-8)
Cair Paravel Latin School requires the admissions committee to examine previous school grades and the most recent standardized test scores (if available). The student will also be given a screening test to establish whether they are ready to fit into the grade level for which they are applying. Due to the limited resources and the rigorous academic load, the student should have evidenced no learning disabilities or previous behavioral problems. Students should also demonstrate an understanding of the nature of Cair Paravel as a Christian academic institution and a willingness to attend our school.
Upper School (Grades 9-12)
Prospective students must demonstrate standardized test scores above the 66th percentile or a GPA of 2.25 during their most recent school year. In addition, they must be able to work out a plan to meet all of the graduation requirements of CPLS based on previous credits. Because of the college-preparatory curriculum, it is often times hard for a student to transfer in after the 9th grade year and meet the graduation requirements. Thus, it is the parent's responsibility to have the students make up any deficiencies with school approval before graduation. Finally, the student must convince the admissions committee of his desire for a Classical Christian education.
