Boy's Soccer Team Roars Back To Championship Win

The 2006 Lions' soccer team came back for a championship win this year, despite a severe lack of players. Having only 15 players, including two seventh graders and four eighth graders, when 11 must be on the field was a challenge for the team, but seemed only to inspire them to work harder. A stellar 11-3 season, one of the best in CPLS history, came with that extra work. Their efforts were especially rewarded in the KCAA state tournament, October 27-28, where they squeaked by Christ Prep 3-2 in overtime, and managed another 3-2 overtime victory against Olathe Christian in the championship match.

Lions' Football Finishes Strong

The 2006 Lions' football team played their best season in school history, finishing 7-3. The Lions seemed invincible early in the season, when they crushed several other teams, sometimes invoking the mercy rule of a 50-point lead. As the season progressed, they played tougher opponents, and ended up playing St. Mary's twice. In the KCAA playoffs, CPLS defeated Veritas 48-28 to advance to the chamionship match to play St. Mary's on November 4th. Although they played valiantly, culminating in a 34-30 lead in the third quarter, St. Mary's pushed back, eventually defeating the Lions 52-34. Coach Seth Garinger was proud of the second-place finish, another Cair Paravel record, saying, "You guys played like champions, and I am proud to have coached this team."

Volleyball Girls Take Second in KCAA Tournament

The 2006 Lady Lions played admirably this season. They took third place in the prestigious Perry-Lecompton Tournament, and seemed ready to take the KCAA Tournament as well. The Lions knocked off both Derby and Veritas 2-0 to progress to the championship match, where they played against WAHAA. Although they played well, the Lions' lost the best-out-of-five tournament 22-25, 22-25, 23-25, scoring only 8 points less than WAHAA throught the entire match. The Lions therefore took second place in the KCAA Tournament, finishing their season with a 20-9 record.
